PDP-8/E Simulator

PDP-8/E Simulator is a full emulator of the Digital Equipment Corporation's PDP-8/E minicomputer, designed for macOS. It accurately reproduces the hardware architecture, including up to 4 KB of memory (expandable to 32 KB with optional modules like the KM8-E) and standardized peripherals: ASR 33 teletypes, RK8-E and TC08 tape drives/readers, cartridge disks, and real-time clocks. A KC8-EA programmer console allows interaction close to the hardware, with cycle-by-cycle debugging.

The interface offers advanced peripheral management (dedicated windows), an octal memory editor, assembler, and data display (ASCII, integers, floats). The emulator includes plug-ins to extend functionality (PDP-8 music player, VC8-E graphics display for Spacewar, or ETOS operating system). The source code (Xcode project) and a plug-in API are provided for custom development. Performance far exceeds that of a physical PDP-8/E, with options to slow execution and replicate hardware behavior. A version adapted for older macOS systems (up to Snow Leopard) and a Classic version (Mac OS 7.x) are available separately.
