MacMAME
MacMAME is a historical port of MAME (Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator) specifically designed for macOS, originally developed by Brad Oliver. It allows emulating classic arcade machines on PowerPC and Intel (x86) systems under 64-bit macOS. Although the project was abandoned after MAME’s native integration into macOS, version 0.224 remains available, offering a lightweight solution for users looking to play retro arcade games. It does not support recent architectures like Apple Silicon (ARM64).
This version no longer follows the official MAME updates but remains functional under 64-bit macOS. For a more modern or extended experience (outside arcade machines), alternatives like the official MAME or dedicated emulators (e.g., SDLMESS for other retro platforms) are recommended. Graphical interfaces like MessMenu (a front-end for SDLMESS) provide additional options for PowerPC/Intel emulations.
